Each one of us has a responsibility to keep older adults safe from harm. The laws in each state vary in terms of professional obligations to report suspected abuse or neglect. Notwithstanding that, if you or someone you know may be a victim of abuse, exploitation, or neglect, you are not alone. Help is available.
Call the police or 911 immediately if you/someone you know is in immediate, life-threatening danger or if you need law enforcement assistance.
If you believe you or someone you know may be in need of Adult Protection Services (APS), please contact your state of local APS program to file an abuse report. You may also contact Eldercare Locator on weekdays for state specific information at 800-677-1116
Access Services
If you or someone you know has been a victim of elder fraud, help is also available via the National Elder Fraud Hotline. You will reach a case manager who will help you through the reporting process at the federal, state, and local levels. You will also be connected with other resources on a case-by-case basis.
